"Once upon a time", muses a journalist from America's MusicTAP, "a rock band could be aggressive and a little loud, and also be melodic and perhaps hit you with a ballad once in a while, and they were still a rock band". And now, he says, "for the first time in a long while, there is a contender for the coveted title of rock album".

He is, of course, talking about the stunning new Threshold album, Subsurface. His final words? "Recommended for anyone who remembers when rock had it all".

And it seems he's not alone. Subsurface has picked up an amazing 14 Album Of The Month awards in 8 countries, making it one of the essential rock albums of 2004.

Threshold are a six-piece band from the South of England, and consist of Mac (vocals), Karl Groom (guitar), Nick Midson (guitar), Richard West (keyboards), Steve Anderson (bass) and Johanne James (drums). The band's early years saw four highly acclaimed albums released through the independent label GEP.

After some line-up changes and many tours in Europe alongside bands such as Dream Theater, Threshold signed to Inside Out Music in 2000. The albums Hypothetical and Critical Mass were released in 2001 and 2002, gaining chart success in Germany and consolidating a strong reputation with both fans and the music press alike. A live DVD was subsequently released at the beginning of 2004 while Threshold returned to the studio to record their brand new album Subsurface.

With glowing reviews all across the globe, we'll return to MusicTAP for the last word about Subsurface. "It?s Threshold?s best album, written with an engaged mind, performed confidently and recommended for anyone who remembers when rock had it all, not just a haircut and an attitude".
